During his time at Syngenta Flowers, Piet worked on many important research projects. He evaluated new plant genetics, solved production problems, and testing new product forms. Some of his key achievements include launching the Xtray and Xcarrier systems, helping the company switch to LED lighting, and finding ways to use fewer chemicals in plant production.
In recent years, Piet has focused primarily on the 'peat-free' project, achieving significant milestones in sustainable growing media development. While Syngenta Flowers will be 'Piet-free' from September 1st, his colleagues will continue this important sustainability initiative.
Over his 27 years at Syngenta Flowers, Piet's research focus shifted to meet new business needs and market trends. These changes kept his work exciting and challenging, driving his passion for innovation. He credits his success to working closely with his talented team in De Lier.
As he prepares for retirement, Piet expresses gratitude: “I want to thank all colleagues for their help, the listening ear, the discussions, and the pleasant collaboration throughout all these years. Only together can we move forward to keep our customers (internal and external) satisfied."
"With Piet’s passion and perseverance, what once seemed like a ‘peat dream’ is now becoming reality. His dedication has truly planted the seeds of a peat-free future for Syngenta Flowers." - Olivier Clisson, Head of EAME.
