Our Farms
Our seeds and cuttings are being produced at farms that are located in the best climates. Our most important farms are located in Africa, Turkey and Guatamala. Once the cuttings and seeds are being produced, they are shipped off to our young plant production site or directly to the growers.
Besides the production at these sites, there is a lot of commitment to the environment and the surrounding communities. Many of our farms are covered by the GlobalG.A.P. certificate. Below you will find more information about the farms Kenya Cuttings, Kenya Pollen, and our farms in Turkey and Guatamala.
Kenya Cuttings
Kenya Cuttings Ltd was established in June 1998. In 2007 the farm integrated into Syngenta Group. At this location plant cuttings of Pelagonium (and soon Begonia) are produced for export in 53 greenhouses. The farm has a capacity to produce 116 million cuttings of Pelargonium per season. Nice to know is that there is an onsite tree nursery which provides 10,000 young plants to the community and our employees every year as part of our environment conservation efforts.
Kenya Pollen
In 2001 Syngenta aquinted the location of Kenya Pollen Ltd. This farm produces unrooted cuttings purely for export. Approximately 68% of the cuttings are from annuals and 32% is perennials. Currently the farm has a production capacity of 120 million unrooted cuttings per year. The site management is also active in several Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects to give back to the community. For instance, they renovated a couple of primary schools and provide hand-washing stations throughout the community.
Ethiopia Cuttings
Ethiopia Cuttings was established in 2005 by Fisher and acquired by Syngenta in 2008. Today the farm covers 108 hectares where cuttings for Pelargonium and Mandevilla are produced. On a yearly basis, around 29 million Pelargonium cuttings and 48 million Mandevilla cuttings are produced for export. Interesting to know is that the site is supporting 30 orphanages and funds the food and school fees of vulnerable children.
Turkey
In our farm in Burça we produce high quality seeds. We started the business in Turkey by cooperating with small businesses and in 2009 a modern facility was built over 5 hectares. At this global seed production site over 1,3 billion seeds can be produced of our pansy, viola, cyclamen, ranunculus and primula during the seven month peak season. Besides that, the site also provides training for small local farmers about business, health, safety and protecting the environment.
